RAdm (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Senior Minister of State for Education and Information, Communications and the Arts, will attend the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Meeting on the Future of the Internet Economy in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 16 to 18 June 2008.
2 The main themes of the Ministerial Meeting on the Future of the Internet Economy in Seoul include the use of Internet to enhance economic performance and social welfare, the harnessing of the Internet as a catalyst, and the development of a truly global internet economy.
3 During the Ministerial Meeting, RAdm (NS) Lui will be speaking at the Roundtable on “Building Confidence”, centering on domestic and cross-border efforts in cyber-security issues. These include the protection of digital identities, safeguards against increasingly complex forms of cyber fraud, and counter-measures against other Internet-based threats.
4 As part of his visit, RAdm (NS) Lui will be meeting Mr Vint Cerf, Google’s Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist; Mr Kevin J. Martin, Federal Communications Commission Chairman; Mr Hong Jungwook, National Assemblyman, Republic of Korea, and Ms Lee-Kyung Ja, Broadcasting Communications Commission Commissioner. RAdm (NS) Lui will also visit the OCON Animation Studio and Digital Media City to gain a greater understanding of Korea’s efforts at driving digital media and animation.
5 RADM(NS) Lui will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.
6 The OECD is an international platform for governments to compare policy experiences and best practices, seek answers to common problems, and co-ordinate domestic and international policies.
